Oh, yes, I saw that one a while ago. Amazing that no one got hurt. I have to wonder if the runaway was a safe drive after that.
ReplyDeleteAnd how traumatic was it for the other horses in the tangle?
The original horse was never put to cart again, but the second one apparently went on to be a champion in driving.
ReplyDeleteEverytime I watch it, I'm so ready to smack the people in the stands. And the people who thought it was a smart idea to jump in front of a spooked, cantering horse with blinders on. However, they provide for a good laugh when they get ran over. haha
I remember seeing this earlier this year, around March-it elicited a HUGE amount of responses. Someone that was familiar with the first runaway said he was no longer showing, but I am not sure if this particular incident was the reason.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a scare for everyone involved!
Ive never seen this either,i wonder how the 2nd horse and the 1st are doing?
ReplyDeletep.s your link under requesting a magnet or pen with BTB on it isnt there?! =(
Wow. I've never seen that before. I watched that whole thing with my hand covering my mouth in pure shock! Terrifying. I'm glad that's not my sport, I don't have strong enough nerves!
ReplyDeletewhos smart idea was it to put about eight horses pulling carts in a small arena togerther...or is that normal??
ReplyDeleteA complete nightmare. I also have seen it, and watched it again wondering if it was as bad as I remembered. That would be YES.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this is true or not, but remember hearing that driving of any kind (especially racing trotters) equalled eventing in terms of danger to horse and horseman.
I knew what was going to happen, and my heart was still in my throat.
Everytime I see this I think "What a mess." The audience always makes me nervous haha!
ReplyDeleteApparently the first horse was stung by a bee, that's what set him off and then everything went downhill from there.
This looks more like a convention for the clueless than a driving class - good grief, and a not a single brain cell among them. Whoever the nitwit with the flapping white sheet was should have been strung up by his toes (big dope never did put it down). It is a miracle that no one was seriously injured!
ReplyDeleteMy heart was in my throat watching that!
ReplyDeleteI don't see any humor in the people getting run over.
ReplyDeleteI saw this video through another blog and boy was it nail biting. The unpredictability of a run-away horse and what might or could happen puts your senses on the edge. Eek.
Unfortunately when were faced with such situations where fast, clear and direct actions are required in a quick thinking action, the instincts are on overload and sometimes we don't always react the way we shouldve or could of.
Looking at the video there could have been other ways of getting the situation under some control in a better way. Instead of physically trying to stop a runaway horse...
No, not humorous, but fascinating in a morbid way -- and actually instructive. I would never have guessed there would be so much screaming; that men/ladies would remain seated in chairs outside the judges box while this was happening; and that the horses in the center wouldn't immmediately be taken out of their rigs. the announcer had it right about keeping the horse on the perimeter but the men kept trying to *catch* him. I'd have my horse out of the rig, I'd be at his head with a buggy whip in hand, edging toward the exit.
