When I first saw this ad in a horse magazine, it seemed horribly out of place. All that skin! The frothy, neglibible undergarments! Yet, it's designed and endorsed by an international jumper rider Ashley Bond. This ad copy just stops me in my tracks: "Our thong is designed to appeal to your sense of fashion and ultimate comfort for all of your fitness activities." I'm no Jane Russell, but no way would that bra be suitable for dressage, much less jumping. And the thought of a thong...

The bra might work, I'd have to see its construction. But the thong?? I can't even imagine...Then again, I would never be comfy in such a thing even if I weren't riding a horse. Eech!
ReplyDeletecan't agree more - the bra does not look supportive (or looks good) at all
ReplyDeleteI don't think the thong/bra advertisement would be that bad if it was just pictures of the bra/undergarments without the people in them.
ReplyDeleteGee you guys don't strip down to your unddies to play with your horses??? Do that all the time! LOL This ranks right up with that breeches ad where you are looking up at the woman's crotch. Does nothing to make me want to buy the clothing.
ReplyDeleteI remember donkey years ago, I wore a thong to work and left there to ride. Let me tell you after about 15 minutes into the 1 hour ride, I was chafed and rubbed raw. It was most uncomfortable to say the least. Learnt THAT lesson well - never wear a thong and ride. It was a great lesson that I never forgot, 20 years later. lol.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the ad, agree too much skin.
ReplyDeleteA bra and pantie ad suits well in a horse magazine because equestrians do use them obviously and comfortable ones specifically designed for riding is a ++ but it could be done in much better taste than seen here IMO.
I wear thongs while riding and have found some super comfortable ones. I personally get chaffed so badly with the full seat panties. I could never go back to wearing those! Plus breeches and pantie lines..ugh.
Wow, you can get sports bras that look like that?? Mine is ugly, has 6 hooks and I could probably poke someone's eye out when I'm wearing it. But it provides support!
ReplyDeleteI don't see anything wrong with the bra for an equestrian who wants support without strapping her "puppies" down with duct tape or something. As for the thong, most people these days ride in them! I go to an equestrian college and just about everyone I know rides in thongs because (the right kind) is comfortable without giving you the dreaded panty lines that are so "faux pas" in todays riding world.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I think the woman sitting on the horses in the ads is a little much, but there is definetly practicality behind the garments.
I wonder about efficacy of an ad featuring half naked women in a magazine aimed at a sport (in the US at least) dominated by women. It's like they are using a formula and forgotten the reason behind it. It's getting annoying to the point that its making me wish I enjoyed looking at half naked women. At least then then, I wouldn't be left feeling so irritated.
ReplyDeleteDo you think they are wearing protective footwear? ;P
ReplyDeleteI dare someone to go jumping wearing "Bondies" and "Low-rise" breeches.
ReplyDeleteI too am perplexed how this ad will sell to women. Unless they are hoping husbands, fed up by their wive's medieval riding under drawers, will buy them?
I was annoyed when the midrif baring pelvic hugger tight pants came out. I'm sorry to read that panty lines are a faux pas in riding. What does that actually have to do with good horsemanship anyway? (Except to prove that women - who are very judgmental of other women's looks- spend the most money on riding clothes.)
ReplyDeleteWould everyone laugh at me if I wore my old fashioned jodphurs - made of soft and super sturdy cotton twill and the super comfy high waist? (Incidentally, so roomy that there is never a panty line.)
I LIKE this style of riding clothes:

Uh....yeah... Obviously those women don't have chests the size of mine (or butts for that matter!) but I promise that bra is for girls much less well endowed! I'm with Beth though - nothing quite like running around the barn in your skivvies (and boots of course, safety first!)
