"He's baaaaad...."
Is this intended to be a piaffe? It looks like the horse is planted on his forelegs and the hind is bouncing up and down (Come'on, buck! Buck him off!). Maybe this is just the rider's way of making a horse dance? Whatever the intent, to me it just looks like bullying, and it goes on way too long.

ugh that's awful... :-(
ReplyDeleteNo collection whatsoever. Horse's neck curled like a pretzel. Hay! I know, let's enter him in an FEI Grand Prix -- I'll bet he cleans up!
ReplyDelete/sarcasm
Beautiful animal though. A shame.
Rachel
And seriously, a minute of that? Gosh!
ReplyDeleteyeah, not real impressive. Especially the length of it. To the rider- We get it, your horse can prance. Now get off him.
ReplyDeleteKind of makes you wish there was a companion video, you know, "Part 2: Payback's a *itch!"
ReplyDeleteThis is charro riding. Primarily from Mexico, these guys don't really ride "correctly" you might say. Frankly you can find video after video of the abuse these horses take to get to the point this horse is at. I've seen huge friesians forced to dance this way. And they do call it dancing. Very sad. :-(
ReplyDeleteCan't even watch. The still is bad enough.
ReplyDeleteSo tired of seeing overbent horses in strong bits....*sigh*
that poor horse!! :(
ReplyDelete*ugh* thumbs down! no bueno!
ReplyDeleteThis is just disturbing on so many levels.
ReplyDeleteIt's Spanish style horse dancing. Not dressage,so this is not piaffe but not sure what it's called in Spanish. I've seen it done in person and it is quite nice but by the cut of the saddle I would say that is an Argentina rider.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it..... the point, that is.
ReplyDeleteThe horse seems cheerful enough... he's even making little bored snorty noises. But that can't be good for his legs and it sure is bizarre to look at. Try pausing the video and it really does look like bucking, must be uncomfortable as heck to ride, since the horse's back end is tipped up at a thirty degree angle sometimes! Horse is a real sweetie to put up with this!
ReplyDeleteI read an essay recently about how people shouldn't be afraid to try "higher level" movements just because they weren't at that level. Well, this video and the other video of the unfortunate young lady with the horse with the stampy front feet do a good job of pointing out that sometimes it really does help to know what you're doing or have someone who does on the ground to stop you and make you go back to basics before you get in over your head. Just because a movement theoretically matches the description of a piaffe or a passage doesn't mean it is one.
That is awful! He never once took his spurs out of the poor horse's flank! I've seen videos like this on YouTube. There was one of a Friesian cross tied between two poles doing a piaffe for what seemed like forever! It's awful! Poor horses.
ReplyDeletewow.
ReplyDeleteI would call this "anti-collection".
Nice hind-end elevation going on there.
Next, I'd like to see him "coax" his horse into a handstand.
