I don't know how much of this movement is natural. Check out the long hooves which contribute to knee action. Even so, he's pretty spectacular. Chrome-o-rama!

Had an acquaintance/trainer who had a Dutch harness mare as a dressage horse. The mare later went on to the Olympics under an (I think) Israeli rider. No success except being an Olympic mount which is pretty darn impressive to me. Not quite as much movement as this stallion, but still....
ReplyDeleteI am guessing these horses are bred for the same kind of flash as hackneys. Lots of fire and action there.
Wow, he's very handsome and proud. Looks like a sweetheart too.
ReplyDeleteThere is a Dutch Harness Horse stud at the barn I board at and he moves just like that. Watching him in the field is amazing. He is gorgeous and he knows it!
ReplyDeleteThere's a DHH stallion in our area who does H/J and dressage. He's super flashy. He has big feet, but not long toes, so I'm thinking the movement is more natural than forced.

The motion of the Dutch Harness Horse is suppose to be "all natural" This means no pads or toe weights. Now, does this mean no corrective shoeing? I don't know.
ReplyDeleteA couple of American Saddlebreds and some Hackneys have been used in the Dutch Harness breeding program, so the similarity isn't unexpected.
ReplyDeleteLate with the souce as usual!

Hey look! It is Totilas! (Ok - I'm joking, don't hit me!) lol
ReplyDeleteMighty fine! Lots of fire but good natured. I wish people wouldn't put music on horse videos. I'd rather hear him snort and fart and enjoy himself.
ReplyDeleteI read in the Wall Street Journal that Amish builders made a lot of money during the construction boom. Where some folks might get a new truck, they purchased DHH's and tricked out buggies with LED running lights.
