Riley demonstrates his "quick hind leg" at the new barn...

May 22, 2010. Riley canters both directions, he's forward, he steers. And he shows his "quick hind leg" although not exactly in the way I'd dreamed he would. The progress continues...

  1. He looks gorgeous! And I can see why you think it's worth paying a trainer to give Riley a great start --- most of us would be over the moon if our older horses knew how to stretch and move forward so freely!

  2. As I've said before, every time I see him go, I'm happy. He's back in fine form from a long haul recovery.

Yep, that quick hind leg is awfully familiar....but he really is being a good boy otherwise...*G* He looks great!

  3. That hind leg made me laugh out loud...so that is what that is called! Well, we have a couple of those.

Riley looks amazing! I love how he is stretching and how your trainer moves him into the canter.

  4. He just thought that whip was one of the huge pesky horse flies that have been around lately! A nice kick normally shoo's them away! hehe.

  6. Stacy: I am so glad to see this! He looks terrific. I'm also glad because I have a 5 yr. old TB at the same stage. I got him free off thehorse.com and he is at my trainer's. I just rode him yesterday for the second time and now I have a great idea of what he can/should do and what I can/should do with him. I am glad to hear her talk to him so much and to see his excellent work ethic. That is something we are trying to encourage in my guy, who was allowed to stand around for several years, having free time. :)

  9. Congrats - this footage must make your heart sing. Not to worry about the wrong lead - may have been a result of the rider not changing her posting diagonal when she changed direction? Gorgeous none the less.
