Check out this fabulosity footage taken on a beautiful, hot (high near 100) Saturday, around mid-morning. Do you see what I see? Riley is getting stronger with every ride, and he's getting more stamina. The canter work is improving especially. What a trainer, what a great partnership! The video is out of sequence, but you can see his first time through cavaletti at 3:40ish.

Riley does look super. Devon is a big deal, and he will have to be fit...but there's not a doubt he'd fit right in the suitability class. His gaits are lovely and it looks as if he is going to develop some pretty impressive suspension as he gains strength.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice boy he is!!
What a beauty! And I love watching whoever is riding him :) lovely pair!
ReplyDeleteMy my, such beautiful natural carriage. Your trainer is so tactful and soft!
ReplyDeleteLovely, but there's no helmet!
ReplyDeleteAhh, Sara, I agree with you :-( and I can't really offer an explanation other than the heat (which is probably why CKD wasn't wearing one).
ReplyDeleteBy the way, if you haven't read Courtney's latest update it's an inspiration -- she said she is just coming to understand "the reality of [her/my] situation," but she is very positive. She offers her perspective on wearing helmets.
Nothing better than progress!
ReplyDeleteLovely video (he looks so grown up!).
ReplyDeleteI know your trainer is a professional and can make her own mind up and all but hello! I'm with the others - riding young horse = hat/helmet.
Yes, and Courtney's perspective is... "WEAR A HELMET!" (her capital letters)
ReplyDeleteAlso I don't think it matters if it's a young horse or an old schoolmaster anytime you are riding do the sensible thing and put on a helmet.
He is gorgeous. I like how your trainer rides the canter to trot transitions and how Riley steps so freely into the trot from the canter. I can see the strength building. Wow, Devon!
ReplyDeleteWell, this cyber auntie has goosebumps and her heart is going pitty-patty in pride. :-) and I love the way your trainer has steady but yielding hands. Riley isn't cranked in, and he has room to find himself, but he also can't loose the connection. And the canter work looked to be improving with each time she asked. Ri-ri, you've come a long way, baby. A really long way......
ReplyDeleteGorgeous video. Riley is so, so cut out for this!! So nice to see his beautiful head carriage and smooth movement. Great riding. My old dressage instructor, though, would have screeched at the rider for looking down "too much", that was her big bugaboo. Always to be looking up, and sitting very erect with buns tucked way under, or the screaming would start. I do miss those days, and even her screeching...
