This video comes with more disclaimers than usual: This isn't the first time I've ridden Riley, and it certainly wasn't our best ride, but it's the first videotaped ride. I popped on him for a quick test drive of my trainer's new saddle after Rileys regular work session. He's tired but a good sport as I throw my upper body around in an attempt to create energy. Fail! Oh well. I've audioswapped music in place of my trainer's instruction to use "MOOOOORE LLLLLLEEEEEGGGGG!"
In case you can't tell, it's also pouring rain.
I like how soft your hands are!
ReplyDeletedunno if its the saddle or you or a combination thereof (my position is so affected by saddle!!) but *I'd* like to see your knee more under you, and less out in front. You might find it easier to use "more leg" and have a more effective seat that way as well.
but that's just one person's opinion. :)
How exciting that you're riding him, too, now!
ReplyDeleteAs far as getting him forward - you'll learn how to get him in front of your leg with time. It'll come! Then you'll suddenly realize what he feels like when really driving from behind, and you'll be ready for it and love it.
You two are just a perfect fit for each other - congrats that after all your time, effort, vet bills, research, and doing everything you could to try to keep his best interest at heart, you're finally there!
Great to see you on your boy and you don't look at all bad as you try to make it sound!
ReplyDeleteYippee! Looking forward to many, many more videos of you two.
ReplyDeleteHi Anon, I battle the infamous chair seat -- this saddle has a very pronounced thigh block that I hope will help. My stirrups are about 2 holes to short here. We'll see...
ReplyDeleteCan't tell about the rain...but you two look great together.
ReplyDeleteI know Riley probably should be more forward, but I really like how nice and relaxed he looks and how softly you are riding him.
Congratulations for finally getting a video of you on your lovely boy. You should be all smiles!!
Yay you guys look great! Riding in the rain, now that is dedication!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice surprise it is to see you ride him! And I would take that lovely softness in a young horse (or an old one!) any day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, soft, relaxed pair. Lovely picture you both create!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for you, sis. You both look soft and lovely. I think the forwardness will come as he figures it out. I can see he is trying. Enjoy the ride! I am jealous. I am off for 4 weeks. :(
ReplyDeleteWhat's so bad about that? You're riding in a different saddle, you haven't had a lot of time on Riley, and it was pouring. I'd say good job. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Laura Jean. You look great. The one horse who makes me look like the worst rider in the world is Tiny, b/c he is so hard to get going that I (mistakenly) start to use everything: seat, legs, subliminal messages, shouted messages, and flapping arms. We did finally discover a white plastic grocery bag tied to the end of the crop helps, and I don't lose my quiet seat.
ReplyDeleteYou are not doing shouting and flapping body parts. Your seat is pushing, sure, but you are very light and quiet, a miracle on a tired horse, in the rain, in a new to you saddle. It's lovely to see you on him!
