Without further ado, here is Riley in The Blanket.
The pix were taken on a windy, sunny afternoon in November (yesterday in fact), and Ri is hanging with his Dutch buddy Ely. These two characters belong together. Ely had cycled through several potential herdmates -- no kicking or biting, but nudging is a torment of its own. Ely's mates came in with frazzled nerves, tattered blankets, and broken halters. He was banished to solo turnout. Then he met Riley.
Ely met his match in Riley, and their first day of turnout I watched Ely remove one of Riley's Valena brush boots and toss it over the fence. It was so gracefully done, Riley helpfully holding his foreleg out while Ely peeled back the tabs.
I just knew they belonged together.
It's a daring choice but the colours look nice on him. Good thing Riley is comfortable with his sexuality :)
ReplyDeletei think the blanket looks great! and i'm not normally one for a bold color palette...
ReplyDeleteOne nudge apparently deserves another. Considering the boot, Riley and Ely seem destined to be together.
ReplyDeleteWill this be a test of blanket durability? I still think Riley looks quite handsome in his "coat of many colors." *G*
Love it - the people who don't like it are just stick-in-the-muds!
ReplyDeleteReally fun post. Made me laugh today.
ReplyDeleteThey look great together!
ReplyDeleteBut why do you keep his boots on during turnout?
You certainly can't lose him in that thing. Unlikely to be mistaken for a deer either, by hunters. I think he wears it very well. Ely sounds like a match made in heaven, lol
ReplyDeleteConsidering I own the matching shirt, I think it's fabulous! I like how the brown trim coordinates with Riley's color - I think it seals the deal.
ReplyDeleteI love it. I saw blanket that was purple with gold stars that I so wanted, but since I don't own a horse the purchase would be silly. I love big and bold.
ReplyDeleteRiley and the Technicolor Dream Coat...priceless!
ReplyDeleteWell it's not like you mixed plaid with stripes (or put him in white after Labor Day - horrors :o) I think your man looks just fine in his new duds, so there.
ReplyDeleteI think Riley looks very handsome, and he seems very proud of his new blanket.
ReplyDeleteIt looks nice on him, and you know what? Having a blanket like that on a chestnut horse during hunting season isn't a bad idea at all.
ReplyDeleteI like it - it is pretty snazzy!
ReplyDeleteThat colour/pattern would make a nice saddle pad too!
I like all the new colorful choices in blankets, even though I don't own one. I also love Riley's saddle pad. It looks wonderful on him. It gets boring seeing the same ole thing, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteI saw that blanket in a catalog last year and wanted it -- I love me a good, colorful stripe!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure about putting it on a gelding though, as it kinda seems like a "Gay Pride Blanket," lol.
But Riley pulls it off with panache, and he looks quite dashing!
A bay TB mare neighbor of mine also has this gay pride rainsheet. I noticed it from quite a distance as I drove down a hill.
ReplyDeletehmm.. The neighbor's bay mare has been wearing the gay pride /Austin Powers sheet for 3 days now. The weather is very mild. She also has a small matching hood. Looks like a hat. What's the point of that? The rain stopped long ago. She'll soon have a nice roll in the mud to scratch some places underneath. The ensemble is quite cute on the mare, but our mediterranean climate hasn't justified using the sheet more than one rainy night 3 days ago.
ReplyDeleteI think he needs a new name now - JOSEPH! First thing that came to my mind (and some others, I can tell). It's neat looking, and very "in" - everyone is going crazy over those Horseware products with stripes now.
