Hi, Hi-waister! Would the waist come up to your boobs too?

Dover is having a big clearance sale and this breech is now under $50. It's a good brand, and a lovely color,  but I'm not biting. Pleated front pants do bring back memories. I wore creme-colored high-waist pants like this in the eighties -- from Paul Harris -- along with a shoulder-padded sweater and hair just out of hot-rollers. Never again.

I don't know if I could tell you specifically what mom-jeans are, but these are mom-breeches in my book.

  1. Yeah, a little too high waisted for me, but ya know, they would be better than seeing the butt cracks of a lot of girls that I am see in the ring.

  2. I'm a mom.. and I wouldn't wear these breeches! So extremely short wasted that they'd be OVER my boobs!

  3. Haha I just had to comment on this one - I can never wear anything that even remotely mentions high waist unless I fancy buying a combinaison!
How high waist do one need for these to actually finish at the waist rather than the neck, I am not sure ;)
Agree with the disapproval of the pleated front...

  4. Actually, I don't mind the higher waist. I'm not too keen on always feeling that my pants are going to fall off my hips. But, I don't need any breeches, so there.

  5. I have to agree with horsemom - the high waist is far preferable to the butt crack! I have never liked the pleated front. They used to poof out and make me look fat. Now I am fat and they don't look any better.

  6. Well...on the positive side; no muffin top!

  7. I was just thinking of this style of breeches this morning. Somewhere I have an old Suitability pattern and I was thinking that I would have a pair made up.

You can scoff about "Mom jeans" but some of us did not come through the mom stage with our figures unscathed. In my case since I am very long waisted, this style could cover a multitude of evils.

  8. I don't mind the pleats but good lord, that rise would be up to my elbows. I am extremely short waisted. Most "regular" breeches come up well past my bellybutton. Low rise breeches are the only breeches that even vaguely rest where they should. I can imagine that "high rise" breeches like these would fit like more of a strapless dress with legs.

  9. The pleats look alright when the person is standing.... but as soon as they are in the saddle or anytime their legs are bent even slightly... the pleats make the fabric pooch out around the crotch.

  10. Oh, that is all kinds of wrong.

I'm sorry, these things do not hide flaws. Nor do mom jeans. They only make you look old and bigger.

    Ugh.

  11. The model pulls them off nicely, and they are quite classy looking, but probably only for those with exceptionally long torsos. And I contend that they are better than butt cracks. I hated worrying whether a person was paying attention to my riding or to something else, which is why I stopped riding in low-rise!

  12. I am far too short for high-waisted anything, but I kinda like the look of the pleats.

I was perusing my tan breeches this morning, because I am going in a casual winter show tomorrow, and let's just say that I need some new show duds including boots. I have the classic field boot complete with fabric hooks for boot pulls. I groaned as I heard the stitching snap in one boot and felt a heartbeat emerge in my calf after I wrestled with the boot pulls. Looks like I will be wearing my winter boots tomorrow!

  13. I don't like the pleats. Not as flattering as they are intended to be. I once owned some pleated dress style joddies when I was a teenager and I wouldn't give them another go.

The high waist I can handle.

I made a big mistake buying a pair of competition joddies in a hipster style as my shirt won't stay tucked in properly and you can see the gap between the waistband and the bottom button of my jacket where it opens. Not classy at all!

The next pair I buy will be high waisted.

  14. I LOVE pleated front breeches. I got into them as a teenager, btw. I don't think they're mom-breeches at all ;)
I'm not a fan of high-waist, either though.

  15. Oi, bleck! As big a fan as I am of plaid (what can I say, I grew up in Preppie-Town, NJ) I am not interested in plaid riding pants. Or pleated ones. And yes, as a short-waisted, large-bosomed gal, the rise on these would result in what Sarah said so amusingly - the look of a strapless dress with legs! :-) No wonder these thangs are on clearance.

  16. Plaid riding pants are the best!!! I have three pairs and I love them all. They are all low or midrise though.

  17. Owned these and ROCKED them back in the wash board abs day. Now - thanks to a combo of motherhood & settling physically in the precise pleated area - not so much. The plaid is still cute though. Subtle and classy.

my verify word is "PONES" lol

  18. On the off chance you have another breeches post coming up, Goode Rider http://gooderider.com/ - I pretty much love their whole collection! Oh, and Animo has some interesting stuff - their current catalogue is good for a giggle http://www.animoitalia.com/
