"Remember, it's a piece of metal in your horse's mouth. The bit is not there for you to play with!"
Haddad helps this rider create more neutral rein contact -- some good exercises and food for thought. Thanks to the rider for sharing this on Youtube...

Thank you for sharing this! I love what Catherine had to say, as I do just about every time I hear her say anything. I would so love to ride with her, even though I'm positive I'd walk out feeling stupid as she pointed out some flaw in the very basics of my riding. It would still make me a better rider, so be worth it!
ReplyDeleteThis rider is really a quite lovely rider, and I think her horse is very nice as well - and here they're learning about something which *seems* so simple... yet isn't. Taught well, with obvious progress - I love it!
Wonderful! Love what she says about the bit, just the reenforcement I needed to hear. Lovely riding.
ReplyDeleteI like Catherine Haddad every time I see her ride (online) and now I see that she is also blessed with excellent teaching skills! One-handed riding is a real eye-opener and definitely keeps the rider honest. I love that Catherine asked the rider to carry her hand a little higher, so the bit works in the corners of the horse's mouth, rather than pulling down. The pair made a lovely combination. Thank you for posting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting that. I added it to my favorites so that I can watch it again.
ReplyDeleteI loved the comment about horses becoming more resistant as you fiddle with the bit. I must remember that.
ReplyDeleteI want that arena!!!
