Apprently not -- at least not the ponies and apparently not even for the Shetland Pony shows in the Netherlands (I think). What on earth can the judges see? But what cuties!

But isn't being a fuzzball part of the Shetland's charm? They are both adorable--as are the riders. Oh, to be young again....*G*
ReplyDeleteMany places it's traditional not to clip ponies and certain breeds in shows. (E.g., where lots of feather, the mane, tail, or coat is is part of the breed characteristic.) Of course if you pulled a pony out of pasture for a show during a cold season, you'd think twice before clipping a lot. Have you seen the Shetland Pony Grand National at the Olympia Horse Show? Of course it is held in December so the ponies have full winter coats. They have a nice hunter clip for the show but their legs are still super wooly. It is sooooo cuuuuuute to see all those ponies racing with "leg warmers".
ReplyDeleteThe ponies are sure cute but I love how festive the arena is! Makes it feel more like an auditorium than a riding arena!
ReplyDeleteI dated a guy who bred Alpacas. When Alpacas go to shows they aren't even brushed and usually have poop, hay, bedding and even bugs in their fiber and that is OK! When i heard this i about died! could you imagine these shows?!?
ReplyDeleteI love the gray's mane - it's all fluff!
ReplyDeleteIn some ways this reminds me of watching some dog shows where you can't even see the legs of the dogs as they run up and back. They look like caterpillars with millions of legs!

She does a dressage test on her daughter's 14.1H Welsh Cob in all his winter fur.
Adorable. They look like Hobby Horses come to life!
