Animo breeches: Not a horse in sight

AnimoTM breeches, which are made in Italy, have recently become available in the U.S. and now Dover Saddlery is carrying them. I think they're cute in photos but I really enjoyed their Spring 2011 catalog, which has a "theme" (think all their catalogs have a pretty unique look and feel), and not a horse in sight! As a rider I will be interested in
  • what the fabric feels like
  • how well they fit me
  • how on earth I'll pay for $350 breeches
Expensive, but just the kind of detailing I fall for -- it is  just lovely. $350! I'm afraid I'll like them. Really afraid.

  1. I saw these today at a horsey shop near me! Their summer show jackets are adorable, but of course they're for jumpers, not dressage riders! Cool collection, for sure. I didn't look at the prices though... Probably not so cool!!! But then horsey stuff is never cheap, is it!

  3. I just don't understand how breeches can cost $349...and the shirt is $199.99...that's $548 more than I paid for my horse!:-) For that kind of money those clothes better make me a better rider lol!

  4. Love these! But I'm with you on the whole, I don't know how I could justify spending that much on clothing. I like the comment that they better make you a better rider for that price!

  5. I loved the brown shadbellies! And like the look of them overall, too. Don't think I'll buy them, but I like them...

  6. Animo does beautiful clothing. I wish it was in my price range.

  7. I want !!!! They are stylish and flattering. Unfortunately the price is prohibitive for me.

  8. Those shadbellies are neat, and some of the decorations on the breeches are cool too...but the prices!!! I'd be afraid to ride in them for fear they'd get stained, or ripped or....something.

Sorry. I don't need to spend that kind of money on my riding clothes.

  9. I agree with you about feeling the fabric. That is most important to me. I cringed at paying $70 for Kerits on sale.... don't think I'll be buying Animo any time soon!

  10. If I'm going to spend a good chunk of money, I'm buying custom-fit goods. Which I have done. I have Elizabeth G & Equissential breeches which have worn like iron and worth every penny. I also have custom (Vogel) boots. I did this because off the rack really didn't fit very well. Iridion comes the closest to fitting my long and not size 0 frame.

This new company looks neat, but I won't be spending the bucks on their stuff because, I'm certain, they won't fit.

  11. The breeches look like they may be comfortable but I would never consider paying that kind of money for them. I just bought a pair of Irideon pants that cost me twice what I pay for a pair of jeans!

  12. I can afford the breeches or the horse, but not both.

  13. $350 ouch! I just can't justify that.

  14. Don't see those gracing my wardrobe any time soon (not at $350 anyway). Now if we could shift Mr. Decimal Point one digit to the left to make it $35, it might be more in line with my no budget budget ;o)

  15. As adorable as they are, it's tough to justify the expense, AND I think an average rider -- even one with a cute figure -- will look like a dilattante or a dandy UNLESS they can deliver a good ride. It's my own opinion but if you're going to wear something like this you want to be able walk the walk dressage-wise, or you'll just be a foolish woman spending money on clothes instead of lessons...

  16. I looked at them in the Dover catalog, but I cannot imagine spending that much money on anything. My wedding dress was cheaper than those breeches! Yikes.
