So last night, I actually crested 1200 subscribers for the first time. I know, because I was up late -- 2am -- and saw the image refresh to 1207.
Why 2am? I was fretting over the horses, who were turned out. At midnight it stormed pretty hard, and kept up for a few hours. I had agonized about turning them out, and I did not choose wisely!
Anyway -- thanks for being a BTB reader! To celebrate, I'm giving away two t-shirts of this type (left). Leave a comment about BTB -- your favorite post, a post you'd like to see, the best or worst post, anything! I'll select posts at random.

I want to see more of you riding Riley!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many posts that I really enjoyed. My favorites included making Harvey's t-shirt, Henny helmet cam video, and Horse Hero clips. I also love it when you add little anecdotes about your barn and your horses. Congrats on 1200+!
I love reading Behind the Bit! Although I am a western rider, I still incorporate dressage principles into my riding. So although your blog features english tack, most of the posts still feel relevant to me.
ReplyDeleteI would, however, like to see a post about the types of diets your horses have, including feeds and supplements. Equine nutrition has always been an interest of mine, and your boys always look great. I think it would be a great read.
I love watching Riley's progress. And anything about Harvey (the good ones) because he's adorable and a very fine gentleman. I loved the coverage of Henny. And the brown tack series. And you always have the most interesting posts, about a little bit of everything. Seriously, I keep abreast of a lot of things in the horse world by reading this blog haha!
ReplyDeleteI read your blog everyday. Thanks for making it so entertaining. Having pics is the best :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 1200 readers! I love the t-shirt and it describes perfectly one of those acquaintances that comes with a nice horse. If it weren't for the horse.... LOL!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite post was the one about Phoebe Buckley and her pint-sized event horse, Little Tiger. I love rooting for the underdog, and she is an underdog I'll be sure to root for in the future.
ReplyDeleteI also thought the post on horse retirement was really thought provoking and sparked some interesting conversations.
i like riley pictures! i think he is just the cutest.
ReplyDeleteI always check in to see what's going on. When you have videos and I'm at work, it sucks cause I have to wait until I get home to watch! Aggggghhhh!
ReplyDeleteI love the posts you do about clothes. The horrible ones we wore in the past and the horrific things that people are wearing now. Your descriptions are priceless.
ReplyDeleteI love your "research" posts where you talk about different horse products or types of horses, etc. And you post your sources at the end. You're very thorough and I love learning new stuff!
ReplyDeleteI have just started reading BTB not too long ago, but I thouroughly enjoy everything Riley and all of the insight and experiences that you share. (I really want that T-Shirt! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI also read your blog daily and have enjoyed it so much! I'd love to see something on leg wraps/boots/etc for dressage horses in training. I have a variety of boots for my horses but I'm not always sure what to put on them and when! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is probably my favorite for the combination of personal stories, researched topics, and researched topics which tie in to personal stories.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see a post on safety gotchas we may not think about in our barns - from fire hazards to gates which meet the fence with a curve so there's space to get a leg hooked, etc.
I have a TB so love hearing about Harv and in particular all the posts where you and Bob talk about Harv's views on the world and all the people in limos that work for him!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite parts are when you talk about your own experiences with shows, horses, or equipment because those are the kinds of things everyone can learn from~ and trust me. I need all the learning I can get. :D Congrats on 1200 subs!
ReplyDeleteI know this is not a single post, but your series on Riley's foot was really interesting and informative. I have to say, though, that I am very thankful it's not information I actually need (but it was definitely good stuff ;o)
ReplyDeleteI read your blog everyday. Love people who update their blogs frequently. Very informative as well.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog. I read it everyday. It's great that you update it everyday, among other things as well.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog. The videos and pictures are great. I have to say I thought the frenemy Christmas gift posts were fun:)
ReplyDeleteThat's a LOT of readers! Yours was one of the first blogs I began reading...
ReplyDeleteI just recently stumbled upon your blog and enjoy it very much. Your pictures are beautiful and I enjoy your perspective. I feel like your blog allows me to keep a finger in the horse world as I no longer have horses myself.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite posts were about your dedication to healing Riley and then his successful recovery. Not sure what was best, but I think the first day he was declared officially sound again and able to go back to work was the payoff.
ReplyDeleteI followed your ordeal with my heart and am so delighted at the good outcome.
I love the "dressage diva" posts: so hilarious and well written -- I re-read them from time to time.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is what got me started reading horse blogs and inspired me to start my own!
ReplyDeleteI like when you post videos of lessons and clinics - I always take away an important thing or two.
When I saw the post about the t-shirt the first time. I thought that sounds exactly like my 17 yr old daughter :) If I would be fortunate enought to win one, it would go to her.
On the face of it, as horsewomen we couldn't be more different. I ride saddle seat and have no intention of showing. I plan to breed someday. The silliest cloths I ever put on for riding are my jeans and a t shirt. If they were clean I could wear my riding clothes to work.
ReplyDeleteBut I love your blog. We are both librarians (I do Children's and YA, hence the jeans and t shirts) we both have non horsey husbands, we both live with boarding situations and work to communicate with the horses caregivers.
It is both seeing our differences and our similarities that make this blog worth reading.
I've been enjoying the blog for several years now-- thanks for always posting something thought-provoking or entertaining!
ReplyDeleteI love the photos and videos of you riding Riley! I would love to see one of you and Harv. Thanks for all the entertaining posts and congrats on 1207 readers! :)
ReplyDeleteI am an 'at home and alone' rider and I love gaining insight into dressage training through you & Riley. I also love following Riley's progress and comparing my thoughts to other readers thoughts. I truly enjoy your blog, everything from the stars of the dressage world to Riley's bright future. Thanks for letting the world share in your experiences and knowledge!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Like so many other readers, I love your posts on products and researched topics. Can't help but love the photos of you riding. And the recent post about Kenzo and what some riders do for their horses (and vice versa) was a personal fave! Thank you for doing what you do.
ReplyDeleteI really like the the more personal posts/stories about Riley/your riding. I particularly like when you frankly think through a training problem on the blog.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoy the subtle humor you have about your own worrying nature--the post about Riley ripping the lunge line out of your hands and running around the farm is a favorite of mine.
I really like your posts. The ones I like best are those where you share your problems and solutions. I also like that they are short and often have a Part II, keeps it interesting, waiting for ..the rest of the story. Congrats on 1200+!
ReplyDeleteWell, I have enjoyed all your posts, but my favorites have been the personal touch, how the horse or event touched or affected your life.
ReplyDeleteDear Stacey,
ReplyDeleteYour blog's appeal mystifies me. It's the first thing I look when I catch up on reading. You have a way of thinking about horses that just hits home. Your horse life and mine have almost nothing in common -- I don't own a horse, you own two. I ride hunter/jumper, you practice dressage; I began riding in midlife -- (my late 40's) and I have no idea when you started. But your Harv and Riley chronicles fascinate me. Reading about your adventures gives me hope that I will share in the ups and downs of horse ownership some day. Though I'm such a late bloomer, I DO want to own a horse -- very much -- and blog about the adventure too. Thanks for blazing the trail. And keep up the good work. -- Highest regards from an Alexandria Virginia reader
I love your blog, mostly because you have many of the same pet peeves and neurosis that I have as a horse owner. =) And I love that T-Shirt - in fact, I bought one in Grey after seeing your initial post on it. =)
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love your birthday cake posts. Also never get tired of seeing Quaterback babies.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your readership milestone.
I agree with Val. More of you and Riley! I really enjoy watching horses (and their people) change and progress.
ReplyDeleteI also love all of the neat little things that you post. Sometimes it's a product, sometimes it's a person, but it's always interesting.
I have only recently subscribed to your blog, but I would love to see more of you riding Ri!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE BTB! There are great humorous posts, which I really enjoy, and then informational articles as well. I love seeing you and Riley's progress, and I love sneaking training tips from your posts and videos! I'm an eventer, and I love the advice I get here for the dressage portion. Also, I am a huge Peter Atkins and Henny fan (he is actually good friends with my best friend!) and I have planned on breeding my mare to Quaterback at some point, so seeing little updates about them just make my day! I always check back, always excited for new blog entries! Keep up the good work, with your riding and your blogging :D Congrats on 1200!
