I see by your toes -- you're a horse person

Yes, I have horses. You can tell by the massive toe bruise! It looks much more vivid in person.

What happened?
Someone left an assortment of scary objects out near the pasture Riley and Harv go in. They bolted, and in the whirl of movement my eye caught Riley's hoof coming down on my foot. I remember thinking, with some bitterness, that of course it's his right hoof--the one that causes all the trouble -- now it's breaking my toe.

I don't think it's really broken...

  1. Owie!! Been there, done that. Last time it was my big toe...eventually lost the nail, but I don't think it was broken. The little toes are more vulnerable, and usually there's nothing to do but wait until it heals on its own.

So sorry. I know how painful it can be and how annoying to try to walk. The one blessing is that it's summer, so you can wear open shoes without freezing your tootsies.

See? Somewhere there is always a silver lining.

    Feel better soon. *sigh*

  2. OUch, that's got to hurt. I've never managed to break any toes because I was stepped on, despite the rather alarming frequency with which it happens. I have however broken toes from walking into couches. 250+lbs? no problem. Couch? No such luck.
    Hope the foot feels better.

  3. Yep, over the years I have had all the toes on both feet broken at various times.

It's a badge of honor, LOL!

  5. Oh my goodness! Ouch! I wouldn't have even recognized that as a toe if you hadn't identified it. That's quite a bruise. I hope it heals quickly.

  6. Awww. . . here is to quick healing.

I had a mare in my youth that stepped on my little toe once a month for about 4 months. I remember thinking, great and it was just starting to feel better every time she did it.

  10. I'd have it checked out to make certain the joint capsule isn't involved. I've broken two toes and never had a bruise like that.

  11. I need a pedicure right now but must wait for a toe to heal. Those ladies at the salon cannot be convinced to leave a sore toe alone. Maybe I must learn to say Toe in Thai?

  12. Owwww, hopefully no permanent damage. I've got broken blood vessels all over my feet thanks to my battles with my horses hooves.

  13. I broke my toe once, everyone assumed it was the horses. I let them go ahead and assume that since in reality I broke it falling up the stairs since I was late for a riding lesson.

  14. OUCH! I can relate...
Last summer my horse slammed on my toe just before mounting to warm-up for my dressage test.
Not only did he break my big toe... but he also took my toe-nail off in the process!

  15. My poor little piggies have suffered similar abuse a time or two. I just tape it to the toe next to it for awhile (after the ice pack routine). That's all the doctor will do most of the time anyway, and it's a whole lot cheaper when I do it *grin*.
