Sometimes Saddlebreds in dressage can look a bit hollow or tight-backed. Not this one. This may not be the most engaged/collected footage you'll ever see, but it is relaxed and pleasant and the mare looks completely comfortable in her job. And she has nice, nice gaits.

Oh Saddlebreds... -drool- I love these horses too much. haha
ReplyDeleteHave you seen Harry Callahan? Currently the only Saddlebred competing in Grand Priz dressage, at PSG level I believe.
I'm so bad about that NFM! Thanks for catching the error :-)
ReplyDeleteYay for the Saddlebred! A more determined, beautiful and willing breed would be hard to find.
ReplyDeleteNice horse with lots of work ethic. I was impressed that she was able to sit that much as they work on piaffe. I think that this is an example of an excellent technical rider. What I mean is that the rider knows when and how to help his horse accomplish each movement. All good riders do this, but I find it especially impressive when the rider is on a nontraditional dressage horse.
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice piece of riding. I like big feet on a horse, like this mare has. I used to ride a kind of goofy Saddlebred mare on trails. She did well. She was petite but very comfortable to ride and had big surefooted platter hooves, she was great. "Tripoli" was her name.
ReplyDeleteIn the video, Miss Alola is being ridden by her trainer Randy Wever. It was not the best ride for either of us as we were using a new saddle. She is progressing nicely and is a joy to work with. She just did her first 3rd level showing and received scores in the mid 60's.
ReplyDeleteI hope you post the footage! She is so lovely and relaxed, and quiet in her mouth. We need to see more of that in the ring...
