I like this ad. You know what it means to me? It's how I would love to ride a horse that makes me feel small. Being five feet ten inches is a drag when you love horses. I can only really ride about 15% of the total horse population, size-wise. I'd love to ride a pony, and I'd love to feel like the rider in this ad...

Very well done! It causes the mind to wander a bit.
ReplyDeleteEldest is even taller than that but she rode a Halflinger this summer while Oscar was recovering from an injury. Almost pony height, definitely not pony barreled!
ReplyDelete(We have a VW. Sadly, it is not as pretty as the horse in the ad.)
I'm 5'8 and riding a large pony! (Well 14'3 on a good day). It can be done! Don't give up all hope :)
ReplyDeleteI'm 5'8 and I ride 14.2hh, 15.2 hh, and 16.2 hh horses regularly (don't ask me how our three managed to end up exactly 1 hand apart). I actually prefer the smaller two - they both have deep, round barrels to take up my leg, and I find them much more maneuverable and coordinated than the big guy. And hey, they're a LOT easier to get on!!!
ReplyDeleteBwah-ha-ha-ha...I love it! Coming in behind you at 5'8.5" but most of me is leg (which, of course, hang down ridiculously low on just about everything ;o) Weight-wise I might fit shorter horses, but lengthwise it just ain't happening ;o)
ReplyDeleteBetter too big, than too small. There is nothing more awkward than that Man on Tricycle feeling.
ReplyDeleteBut with a smaller horse, if you have trouble with a transition, I guess you could put your feet down and let the horse get his feet untangled, and then sit back down and continue? I"ll never know. I'm SHORT.
ReplyDeleteI hear you! And you are lucky to have a slim build. I'm on the thicker side and I'm 5'9". In my journey to find a suitable horse, there were only a handful who were close to fitting me size wise.
ReplyDeleteI have never felt small on any horse. Even the lovely horse I have now is probably a tad too small for me but, speaking for myself, as I have gotten older, I'm more interested in a horse who suits me as a partner than as a picture.
I'm a solid 6' in my bare feet, my guy is just under 16hh. I rode my daughter's 17.2hh warmblood for years just to feel some sense of proportion. Bliss!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely ad!
ReplyDeleteI used to think I couldn't ride anything under 16.3 without looking silly (I'm 5'10", or 5"11" on a good posture day). Then I met Fenway Bartholomule, who is 14 hands and three quarters of an inch.
I'm not saying we don't look silly, but he does feel right for me. I wouldn't turn my nose up if the Vertical Endowment Fairy waved her wand over him and added a hand, but he's 17 this year. I think he's done growing!
