Olympian rider Heike Kemmer shows us exercises for riding. Narrated in German, you can still get a lot out of it, and it's fun to watch a rider in goofy positions...

Yoga with riding boots and gloves!
ReplyDeleteOh my! Some I can do, some I can't--at least not yet with my new knees.
ReplyDeleteActually, most of the exercises are designed to create more flexibility, particularly in the hips and pelvic area. Years ago, I was lucky enough to spend a week with Lockie Richards at his farm, taking lessons on my horse. He actually had to work on me to get my lower back less flexible as I tend to really move with my horse.
Now, I think I need to start doing some of those exercises to get myself back into shape. I'm not sure just how much the new knees are going to impact things over the long term as they don't work exactly as my real knees did, but the rest of my joints should be just fine.
Thanks for a really interesting post and a super video--even if it is in German.
Oops..one more. That elastic band thing he's using is often used by ballet dancers for stretching and exercise. A good friend of mine introduced the band to dancers here in the US and was very successful manufacturing and selling them. My chiropractic center also uses them in PT therapy.
What a woman, exercising in her tall boots with her spurs on!
ReplyDeleteFun to watch and I got a couple of new stretches out of it.
ReplyDeleteI already do the skipping. I discovered it watching out-takes of Jackie Chan warming up before doing his stunt work. (I wonder if he can ride? Jackie Chan doing equestrian vaulting!)
