Loved the music, loved the risks taken in this freestyle, love everything I hear about Kofford's style and reputation. Nice to see him ride in person at last.
Here are two performances of the same freestyle. I love the Devon version -- so much more expressive in 2012 than in 2011 -- but there were some mistakes. The artistic scores must have been pretty high, don't you think?

Have to disagree on this one. Yes, there were technical errors, but that's OK. It's the artistry I need to question.
ReplyDeleteComparing the musicality of D Niro's freestyle to this one is almost apples and oranges. Surely, the music was dramatic, but it did not fit the gaits or movements as well, and I'm not quite sure it suited the horse. (Little problem here as often videos do not capture the horse's presence well...) It's very difficult to use the same musical rhythm for both trot and canter as he did in the end and not all the changes within the music were reflected in the movements and vice versa.
Dramatic music may well be impressive, as it was in the famous Totilas freestyle, but that does not always lend itself well to the dance of the horse.
