It can be scary, but isn't it fascinating? This horse can't quite work up the nerve to climb, but he gets the idea!

Ah, yes. And that's why my barn has a strand of electric in front of all the gates--so the horses can't abuse such a fun object. ;)
ReplyDeleteHad to turn the music off, but yes, this is a horse that's thinking. I see this same "wheelturning" when a horse is playing with the latch on the stall door ;o)
ReplyDeleteI notice in the comments that he has now figured out how to JUMP the same gate. Geez, I would have been terrified watching him put his leg through it.
ReplyDeleteMy horse is like this. That's how I ended up with this:

(and no, he wasn't tied to it. That halter used to hang on the gate because the horses I turned out 'naked')
Ozzy also knows how to undo latches and double ended snaps as well as untie himself and unplug the electric fence. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Yikes! While it is interesting to see the horse thinking, I would still string some hot wire across the gate area for awhile so the horse learns to stay off it. I'd prefer they use their brains for other things!
ReplyDeleteHoly moly! That horse is totally trying to get his back legs into the action. They are such smart animals
ReplyDeleteYikes! My 2yo gelding can unlock his stall door, untie himself, undo the gates if not latched 100% right, pulls halters off of fences/hangers, has even undone the buckles on his halter when it was attached to the outside of his stall. When he wants attention he finds the loudest thing he can and bangs it around until he gets what he wants. I'm terrified of what he's going to learn to do next!
