Harvey in Spring 2015 |
My buddy of twenty years, Harvey, left me on December 4. He departed peacefully -- no trauma, no pain. Old age, balance issues -- it was time to see him safely home.
I feel so blessed to have had this amazing, wonderful creature in my life. Every day with him has been a gift. I miss him so much.

To live in this world
you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go.

I am so sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss. Even when we know it's the wrong thing it's never easy for it makes our hearts heavy with sadness. The greatest responsibility we have for our pets is knowing when it is time to say goodbye.
ReplyDeleteGodspeed Harvey.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss. I have really enjoyed reading about Harv and feel like I know him, even though we've never met. Horses give us the wing we lack. I hope you continue writing your blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry (((hugs)))
ReplyDeleteWonderful advice, but so difficult to do.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss. I have really enjoyed getting to know Harvey through your loving words. It was clear how loved he was and what a special horse he was. Thinking of you...
ReplyDeleteSo sorry. Glad you were able to ease his passing.
ReplyDeleteHarvey enjoyed a life that I would wish for my own horse.
ReplyDeleteRest in peace, handsome Harvey.
Oh Stacey... I had a feeling this day was coming, with winter upon us, but OH, I am sad. Weeping for you and your wonderful, noble boy. You were indeed SO blessed to have him. We all have enjoyed sharing your special relationship. I know that you did exactly the right thing - putting him peacefully to rest now, before some horrible trauma might have occurred on snow and ice - is by far the best and kindest love you could show him. Nothing like the heart of a TB. Nothing like your Harvey. Bless him and ((hugs)) to you and Bob.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss. Harvey was very lucky to have you too.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you had to say goodbye to Harvey, but how great to have had so much time together and I am glad you were able to give him a peaceful ending. Run free Harvey

ReplyDeleteSorry for your loss, Stacey. Harvey was one special horse and I enjoyed following his adventures with you. May your memories with him trot on to help ease your grief.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry Stacy. I am a long-time reader, but not so much commenting. It is so obvious how much you love your horses, and how much Harvey adored you. I always enjoyed reading about him (and Riley!). Wishing you comfort during this difficult time.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear this. The greatest gift we can give our beloved horses is knowing when the time has come.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful boy. I'm sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry and sad to hear that. He couldn't have been more loved or received better care. In his photos and videos he has always had the glow of an animal well loved...even as he showed his age more. He was such an elegant, dignified and funny gentleman of a horse. You two were lucky to have found each other. What a beautiful 20 years together.
ReplyDeleteI've come to know Harv only a little from afar, and I'm grateful for that. Sending comforting thoughts to you.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss. I started following your blog last year around this time when I lost an old guy myself. It was hard, but I really enjoyed Harvey updates and seeing the ups and downs of another old gelding. He was lucky to have you around.
ReplyDeleteOh, I've dreaded the day this post would come. So very sorry!
