When I was eight or nine-years-old, I somehow got my parents to buy this poster for me. To my pre-teen mind, this was the most beautiful painting in the world. It took my breath away.
I ran across this on Ebay, for sale as delightfully kitsch. I guess it is. But it had its day!
I remember that, too!
ReplyDeleteI have this very same print!
ReplyDeleteI think it's lovely and you should have it again. :)
ReplyDeleteI've never left a comment here before altho I try to read your blog from time to time! This poster *really* caught my eye and brought back childhood memories of my own!! Without saying my own age, I got to say that it has to be over 30-40 years old!! I remember waaaaayyyy back when it used to be advertised in comic books (I think) I don't know about old horse magazines (altho I don't see why it *wouldn't*!) but I definitely remember the comic books because I didn't have an allowance then and my parents didn't share my love of animals! There's another one out there of a white stallion in the moonlight(?) and I *think* they have a few mare & foal sets
ReplyDeleteVery nice Ebay find!
Oh, wow. I did this as a paint-by-numbers when I was maybe 12. About that time Readers Digest ran in their September issue a little poem that began, "September is a stallion with wind-enchanted eyes..." I cut the poem out and stuck it in the corner of my painting where it stayed till I dismantled my childhood bedroom after college.
